Kourion
Kourion is an obligatory place to be visited except for Limassol. It encapsulates the essence of the ancient world – the ruins of the prehistoric mansion, the amphitheatre with the view of the sea and the Temple of Apollo.
Kourion is an archeological site with the remnants of the ancient settlement situated 20 kilometres far from Limassol. The city was dwelled by Christians and till the forth century it experienced the abundance of economic and cultural development. Unfortunately, as a consequence of a severe earthquake the ancient city was destroyed.
The merits of visiting Kourion are as follows: the ability to see the remnants of the theatre, stadium and Roman baths, the example of Hellenistic style, a variety of mosaics representing both the motifs of the early Christianity and classical myths. Two kilometers away from the ancient city there is the Temple of Apollo which is partly reconstructed.
